EnduraCell Sulforaphane

The GUT CLUB is a proud partner of EnduraCell Sulforaphane products which is a 100% whole broccoli sprout material which retains its essential myrosinase and which yields several-fold more SULFORAPHANE than the next highest broccoli sprout product.

But what is sulforaphane and how can it help improve health and protect from disease? It is a fascinating and deep subject!

April 27, 2022 PODCAST

The GUT CLUB has collected profound research about sulforaphane related to microbiota, the gut-brain axis including autism, and as COVID-19 treatment and prevention strategy.

Sulforaphane is the most potent naturally-occurring NRF2 activator which begins a process of reducing inflammation throughout the body via antioxidant enzymes and detoxification pathways including raising glutathione, the body’s master antioxidant. Its action in downregulating uncontrolled inflammation via NF-kB inhibition supports the protective effect of Nrf2 activation.

Cruciferous vegetables like broccoli and broccoli sprouts contain bioavailable precursors of sulforaphane: glucoraphanin and the enzyme myrosinase to catalyze its conversion to sulforaphane although the sulforaphane yield from broccoli vegetable is 20-50 times lower than that for broccoli sprouts..

Gut microbes can also exhibit a myrosinase-like effect to produce sulforaphane, but only at around 8-10% of the conversion that occurs when the myrosinase is maintained intact in the broccoli sprouts.. More so, not every gut contains enough of those bacteria able to help produce sulforaphane! This may include the autism gut as well as in individuals with significant gut dysbiosis wherein the commensal microbes with myrosinase-like activity are limited or absent.

The good news is EnduraCell does include the required myrosinase. By contrast, ‘broccoli seed extracts’ contain only the glucoraphanin precursor without the essential myrosinase enzyme. These products are reliant on the uncertain nature of the gut microflora for conversion.  The clinical trials showing clinically-relevant successful outcomes have used interventions where both the glucoraphanin and the myrosinase are included.

And the even better news is that sulforaphane also holds the potential to shift flora in the right direction, raising crucial, protective Bacteroides and Firmicutes per recent research.
